Experience the legacy of sustainable coffee farming in the heart of Ethiopia’s Arabica region
Welcome to Limmu Kossa Estate, established in 1992 in the heartland of Coffee Arabica, in southwest Ethiopia. With a focus on sustainability and quality, we have developed 356 hectares of coffee plantation using elite varieties within an agroforestry system. Our modern processing facilities ensure the highest standards, certified by Organic, UTZ, and Rainforest Alliance. We've also expanded by 400 hectares to cultivate specialty coffee, maintaining our commitment to excellence in every cup. Join us on our journey to bring you the finest Ethiopian coffee, grown with care and passion in a harmonious environment.
Limmu Kossa was established in 1992 with a vision to contribute to the region. "I am coming to this land to live with you, and I wish to work with you, to work together," our founder, Ghidey Berhe, told the villagers shortly after purchasing his 360-hectare lot.
Sixty percent of Ethiopia's coffee production comes from the Limmu region. Our Limmu estate was born from a land where mainly small bushes grew, developed in close cooperation with the local villagers. In creating the estate, Ghidey nurtured the ancient trees that grew in various parts of the land. He revitalized the soil, tended to the ground, and ultimately developed a system that produced excellent coffee while benefiting the entire village.
We implemented community projects based on the villagers' needs, building churches, schools, and medical centers. Today, Limmu Kossa's efforts have expanded to another region, where we acquired an additional 460 hectares: the Sheka Forest Biosphere Reserve, one of the most sustainable coffee projects.
Located at an altitude between 1,840 and 2,130 meters in Galeh, coffee cherries ripen slowly under the shade of ancient trees. Due to the area's diverse microclimates, Ghidey decided to experiment with three microzone lots—Betella, Suki, and Sinsino—to explore potential flavor differences.
The cultivars planted in these microzones also vary, as the agronomy team has adapted them to the unique shade, humidity, and soil conditions of each area.

Located about 370 kilometres from Jimma, in the southeast, Sheka is also one of the richest and most diverse regions we've come across. It is also one of the few regions in the world protected by the UN. This reserve includes forests, bamboo thickets, wetlands, agricultural land, rural settlements, and towns. It covers a unique biogeographic unit extending from cold and very wet highlands to hot lowland areas.
Cherries are hand-picked by seasonal pickers on the estate. On delivery, all cherries are pre-screened by controllers, after which lots are separated into the washed lots (early and midseason) and naturals (late season)
