Message from Gidhey Berhe

My story is written in the soil of these highlands. For over three decades, the Berhe family has woken with the sun to tend to this land in Jimma. This isn't just a business for us; it is our heritage, our life's work.

I learned the art of coffee from the ground up—from knowing the exact moment a cherry is ripe for picking to understanding how the mountain air affects the drying process. This hands-on knowledge is what ensures the consistent, high quality of every bag of Limmu Kossa coffee.

By bridging the gap between our farm and your roastery, we can offer complete transparency, a direct partnership, and the certainty that you are receiving coffee cultivated with three decades of care and expertise. When you buy from Limmu Kossa, you are not just buying a commodity; you are sharing in our family's legacy.

The Limmu Kossa Region: A Unique Terroir

Nestled in the heart of the Oromia region, the Limmu Kossa district in Jimma is celebrated as one of Ethiopia's premier coffee-growing origins. It is here, on the slopes of the highlands, that our coffee develops its distinctive character.

  • Altitude: Our farms are situated between 1,850 and 2,100 meters (6,070 - 6,890 feet) above sea level. This high altitude allows the coffee cherries to develop slowly, creating a denser bean and a more complex, nuanced cup profile.
  • Climate & Soil: The combination of a consistent rainfall pattern, moderate temperatures, and incredibly rich, volcanic soil creates the perfect environment for the heirloom Arabica varieties we cultivate. This unique terroir is the foundation of our coffee's signature bright acidity, floral aromatics, and clean, balanced body.

This is the land that gives our coffee its soul
